Transmission fluid does a hard job. It carries the drive, cools the unit, and operates the hydraulics that shift the gears. Over time it degrades and collects debris, and tired fluid is behind a large share of the failures we see. A regular service is inexpensive next to a repair, and it is the single best thing you can do to keep an automatic healthy.

What a transmission service includes

• Fluid replacement. The correct fluid for your vehicle, to the right level - not a generic substitute.
• New filter. Where the transmission has a serviceable filter, it is renewed so the fresh fluid stays clean.
• Pan and seal check. The pan is inspected for debris and the pan gasket or seal is renewed as needed - debris in the pan tells a story worth reading.
• Leak inspection. External seals, cooler lines and mounts checked, so a small leak is caught before low fluid does damage.
• Road test. The vehicle is road tested so the transmission is confirmed shifting cleanly before it goes back to you.

The right fluid and the right interval

Not every automatic is serviced the same way, and using the wrong fluid can do more harm than leaving it alone. We service to the correct specification for your make and model. As a general guide, every 50,000km suits most vehicles, but towing, heavy loads and stop-start city driving all shorten that. If it has been a while, or you have never had it done, it is worth a conversation. Keeping up with servicing is also the best way to avoid the bigger jobs - a valve body fault or a rebuild - and if anything does not feel right while it is in, a quick diagnostic check can catch it early.
