Automatic Transmission Repair in Christchurch

From minor oil leaks and solenoid failures to mechatronic replacements and complete internal repairs, we restore your transmission to reliable operation using quality components - and we tell you what it needs before we start.

Not every transmission needs a rebuild

A common fear when an automatic plays up is that the whole unit is gone and the bill will be enormous. Often it is not. Many faults are a specific, repairable component, and once a proper diagnosis has pinpointed the cause, a targeted repair puts things right for a fraction of the cost of a full overhaul.

Repairs we carry out

  • Fluid and cooler leaks. Seals, gaskets, pan and cooler line leaks traced and fixed before low fluid does real internal damage.
  • Solenoid faults. Shift and pressure control solenoids that stick or fail, causing harsh shifts, slipping or limp mode.
  • Mechatronic repairs and replacement. The combined valve body and control unit on many European and dual-clutch transmissions, a frequent cause of shift faults and warning lights.
  • Valve body faults. Worn or sticking valves upsetting hydraulic control - see our valve body repairs.
  • Torque converter faults. Shudder, slip and lock-up problems - see torque converter repairs.
  • Internal repairs. Clutches, bands, seals and hard parts, replaced with quality components when the damage is inside the unit.

Honest advice, quality parts

We will always tell you honestly whether a repair is the right call or whether a complete rebuild is the more sensible long-term decision for your vehicle and how you use it. Nothing is started without your approval and a clear quote, and our workmanship is warranty-backed. We repair automatic transmissions for passenger cars, SUVs, 4WDs, European and Japanese vehicles, light commercials and fleets across Christchurch and the wider South Island.

Repair, rebuild, or a good used transmission

There is a third route people often do not realise we offer, and it is a solid part of the business: fitting a used transmission. When a unit is too far gone to repair economically, a sound used one can cost less than a full rebuild and get the vehicle moving again sooner - which on an older car is frequently the smarter buy. We look at the cost comparison and the benefits of each so you can make an informed choice, and we will tell you which one we would pick if it were ours.
